WAYANAD FLOOD RESPONSE

The Incessant rains and devastating landslides have ravaged the Panchayth of Meppadi in the Wayanad district of Kerala, India. This disaster has claimed the lives of at least 63 people, with more than 100 still missing. Over 250 people remain stranded, and more than 2,500 have been displaced and rendered homeless. The relentless rain has caused widespread destruction to homes, crops, and properties.

In response to this catastrophe, over 10 relief camps have been established in schools, community halls, and other facilities. These camps provide temporary shelter to affected families, including women, children, and the elderly. Despite the extensive efforts of the government, NGOs, and community groups, the scale of the disaster is such that the current relief efforts are insufficient.

BREADS Bangalor is deeply committed to the development and well-being of the tribal communities, youth, and children in Wayanad, has stepped forward to provide emergency relief to the affected families. Our team, along with the Salesian Priests and staff, has visited the worst-hit villages of Meppadi and Mundakkai, witnessing firsthand the extensive damage and the urgent needs of the survivors.

In this dire situation, we are focusing our efforts on providing the following:

  • Food and Clean Water: Ensuring that the affected families have access to basic sustenance.
  • Medical Aid: Providing essential medicines and healthcare services.
  • Clothing and Shelter: Supplying necessary clothing and helping to rebuild homes.
  • Livelihood Assets: Assisting in restoring income-generating activities.
  • Counseling Services: Offering professional counseling to traumatized children and women.

Our dedicated team, including students and staff from Don Bosco College Sulthan Bathery, is actively involved in rescue and relief operations.

We appeal to you for financial support to help us mobilize the necessary materials and resources for this urgent cause. Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a significant difference in the lives of those affected by this disaster.

The support and contribution will directly benefit the victims of the Meppadi Panchayath in Wayanad district. Our goal is to reach at least 1,000 people through our relief efforts. Don Bosco Sulthan Bathery is part of the coordination team with the Government of Kerala and district administration authorities, ensuring that your contributions are utilized effectively and efficiently.

Please consider supporting us to our disaster relief and support project. Your generosity will provide immediate and much-needed assistance to those who have lost everything.

Together, we can bring hope and relief to the victims of this devastating natural calamity.
